Captain Crankypants Turns 8 Months

Filo is actually not as cranky as he was, he has kinda tuned a corner and he is back to his pretty much cheerful self.

This month Felix continues to be quite a busy boy, he has perfected the commando crawl and can now do some impressive yoga poses namely the downward dog and the plank poses (both very funny to watch). He is still working on crawling, he gets up on his knees and he moves his feet but he hasn’t worked out his hands so they stay put and he ends up doing yoga. He is also getting better on his feet, he loves to be walked around, something which his Pake totally indulges him in. He is getting much more sturdy on his feet, he has got the one foot in front of the other concept down. He loves Amelia’s old music table, only issue is one of us has to stand with him. He is also sitting quite comfortable sitting these days.

Felix is a happy little dude, who is full of smiles. He is also full of noises. Mamama… Dadada…Bababa…

This month Felix had some issues with sleeping. He was sick and had a very stuffy nose so I think breathing was abit tough and it kept waking him up. We had one rather sleepless night, ugh, we are out of practice and we were both DEAD the next morning.

Felix is a very good eater, he will eat pretty much anything. He is still primarily on mush but he also gets cheerios, mum mums, pizza crusts and the occasional pieces of fruit.

He still loves being sung to, “Round and round the garden” is one of his favs, pretty much anything that ends in him being tickled or rolled around he loves.

Still no sign of teeth!

FINALLY We will not be homeless!!

We bought a house last weekend yipeeee!!!! It is a bungalow on a very quiet little cul-de-sac, right by mimico creek and five minutes from my mom’s. The house is in great shape but needs some updating (it was a granny special). I have already been busy planning the kitchen, I am pumped. We saw the house on Thursday and of course they were not accepting offers until Sunday, ugh and sure enough by Sunday there were 2 other offers. Oh well.

Sunday we all helped Julie move into her new loft and we invited everyone back to our place for Sunday dinner. Initally John, Denise and Julie had declined cause it had been such a crazy week for them with all the painting and moving etc. but in the end they all decided to come along with my parents who were always going to come. SO anyways Sunday at 4pm we put in our best offer fully expecting to be rejected yet again but we were floored when Sharon called us at at 5:30 to tell us that we got the place, we were jumping up and down int he kitchen just as John, Denise and Julie pulled into the driveway. Jeff and I had to go over and sign one the papers so we ran out the door leaving the kids with J,D and J, Poor Felix was sitting in his chair bib on ready to be fed with one parents to feed him Luckliy the family guess right and decided he was just about to be fed and hadn’t already eaten so they picked up where we left off.

The house is a three bedroom with potential for a fourth in the basement, a huge backyard (pie shaped), two wood burning fireplaces and most importantly TWO bathrooms We are all so excited and so happy to be finished our seach. Only hiccup as it stands right now we are out of our place on July 15th and don’t get this place until the 30th… EEEP The person living there is doing their best to try to find something sooner so we can get it before our closing (fingers and toes crossed).

Amelia isn’t sure aobut the whole move thing but she has decided that her new room with be painted while and pink with pink flowers, (I am going to have to figure out how to actaully implement this request).

Felix is teething like mad these days and is being an A**, his new nickname is Captian Crankypants. One of his weeks major achievements is that he can now get his toes in his mouth, he is pretty pleased with himself.

I am pretty busy these days with kids, moving and reno stuff and my photography course is now two days a week until mid June. This coming weekend I am off to Montreal with a couple friends, should be fun!!

The Little Beast is 7 Months

Filo is such a boy everything is done with brute force and as loud as possible. He is currently rolling around the floor attacking and chewing a board book and yelling, you would think he was in a battle to the death from the noise. From the yells I keep thinking he is upset but if I turn to look at him I get the big open mouth muppet grin so I guess the battle is going his way and he thinks he will be successful in his assault on the Hungry Caterpillar. Last week Jeff gave Felix a bowl to play with while he was heating up his dinner. We did this with Amelia to, she would pick it up try to chew on it and kinda spin it around with her hand, not Felix he immediately picked it up and started slamming it down on his tray.

Filo is quite mobile now, he rolls with purpose and is quite skilled at the commando crawl. His fav is standing, he gets the Muppet grin whenever you pull him up. Last week we pulled out the music table which he is lovin. He can stand at it without problem but he gets distracted he goes over. Similar situation with the sitting, he can sit but hasn’t quite got the stabilization thing yet.

Felix’s other new discovery is his feet, he is so pleased with himself. He can’t quite get them in his mouth yet he just likes to grab them. He is big on sucking his finger, he doesn’t suck his thumb but he does suck his pointer finger when he sleeps or when he is tired.

He continues to love his food though he is getting abit more selective about it. Thing he likes such a meat, squash, lentils but he isn’t so keen on super texture-y food or peas and beans but he will eat them mixed with stuff. I think plain cereal is still his fav though. He also LOVES his mum mums and cheerios. I think watching him eat cheerios is one of my favorite past times, he is so intense in his attack.

The other new thing for Felix is various noises, his favs are clicking his tongue and making motor boat noises.

Right now he is abit sick, runny nose and a cough. Maybe signs of his first tooth? But as of today still no sign of any teeth.

Amelia’s 4th Birthday Party/The Day We Lost the Class Hamster

So we had Amelia’s 4^th birthday the other weekend. Amelia was allowed to invite 6 of her girlfriends over for a fancy dress tea party (which turned into a princess tea party… gag gag) . In the end two of the girls couldn’t make it so we ended up with five little girls (including Amelia) this doesn’t seem that daunting but you would be wrong, thank goodness we brought in reinforcements in the form of Heather. THANK GOODNESS FOR HEATHER. We decided to try to do an old school home birthday party, we planed a couple arts and crafts and then “tea” and lunch out on the deck. Unfortunately for us the girls breezed through the arts and crafts in all of 20mins and lunch in about 30min. We ended up with about 20min of unplanned time EEEPPPP! With some songs and story time we all managed to survive ha ha ha Jeff pulled out his robot voice and some fancy head wear and was King of the Robots, this entertained the girls. I was surprised how long the tea party actually entertained the girls, that and the fancy voice competition.

The party was going okay until I went downstairs and I heard some scratching in the wall, hmm strange. Oh did I mention that we were babysitting the class hamster Simon for the weekend… yeah so he was in the laundry room in the basement so he was safe from the cats and kids. Unfortunately it seems somehow the cage was opened and Simon got out and into the walls of the basement. Not really what we needed in the middle of a 4 year old’s birthday party. AHHHHHHH!!!!

Well the party continued and we survived. Amelia had a great time, I think she enjoyed having all her friends over.

In the evening we had round two of Amelia’s party, the grown up party. It is an annual tradition, all our family and a few friends come over, including Amelia’s boyfriends, Edward and Ronan.  There was much food and drinks in celebration of Amelia’s fourth year.

Amelia is turning into quite the little girl. We have some impressive battles but for the most part she is a cheerful, smart, fumy little girl. In the last couple months she has learned to write all her letters, she hasn’t figured out that they have to go in a certain order to make a word, she frequently writes her name AMLEIA. She is also big into performing these days, dancing and singing are her favs though last night she also got into the piano and harmonica at John and Denise. She has been in swimming lessons for the last few months and she is becoming much more comfortable in the water. She was so proud the other day when she finished her lesson and she had done SIX bobs, she had to tell us all

So if you are wondering about the hamster, yeah… the next day still no sign of Simon the next morning. We were feeling pretty bad and we didn’t want to be the ones responsible for the loss of the hamster. So by 2pm on Sunday afternoon we decided it was time to ACTIVELY search for Simon. We knew he was in the wall behind the toy closet under the stairs so we ended up cutting a few holes and luckily we found Simon after hole #2. Very annoying about the holes but thank goodness we found him!! Simon you tricky little …  When Jeff dropped Amelia off at school the next morning he alluded to the fact that Simon had had some adventures over the weekend. When Jeff picked her up the teachers all had a few laughs as Amelia had spilled the beans on the new additions to our basement décor.

Felix is Half a Year

Felix turned 6 months old on friday. Felix has become quite mobile this month, he rolls with a purpose now. Write more later…

Okay finally got this done… Felix continues to be a pretty happy smiley little boy, he has a great giggle when tickled or rough housed with, he also has quite the cackle. He loves smiling at people, me, his sister, strangers, even people on TV (but only if they smile at him first).

His looks have been changing in the last month or so, he is starting to stretch out but he is still pretty compact. He is very long in the torso with stocky little legs. He has now lost almost all his brown hair and his white blond hair is getting thicker. He still has his dimples on both sets of cheeks.

He now rolls around with a purpose, and as a result he is getting into more mischief. The other day I was cooking dinner and he was in the dinning room on the carpet, I turned my back and then looked back and he was on the hardwood licking the floor with my shoe in his other hand (not sure which would have been better to be licking but either is pretty gross). We now find him all over his crib, the other day I was down stairs when I heard him wake up and start chatting away to himself, I figure I would finish what I was doing before going to get him, then this blood curdling scream started so I ran upstairs only to find him as the foot of his crib with his big quilt pulled down on him (I usually hang the quilt over the end of his bed). By the time I made it into his room he managed to get the quilt off his face and he was smiling away at me quite please with himself. He still isn’t so good at sitting, he can sit there for a moment but as soon as he sees something to either side of him he is leaning and over he goes.

He doesn’t seem that far from crawling, he gets up on his knees and he gets up on his arms but he hasn’t managed the two together. I am in for it when he does get it. The other day John was playing with him and he stood him up next to his exersaucer and Felix grabbed on and John let go of him, he actually stood there on his own for a few seconds.

Felix continues to be a very noisy baby, he loves yelling just for the fun of it. He talks to himself and coos away. He has also learned to blow bubbles/make the motorboat noise. He was doing it bit then one night last week we were going out and Amelia and Felix were in the back seat, Felix started doing it and Amelia started laughing, and Felix started doing it more and then squealing with delight, the tow of them just egged each other on. This was a first for us, this was the first time the two of them were playing with each other, it was pretty cute.

Felix loves his food! He has eaten all sorts of things and hasn’t really found anything he doesn’t like. Lately I have started giving him little pieces of bread when we are out. I put them in front of them and he manages to grab them (often sending half of them to the floor). I like this self feeding thing.

Felix is a pretty good sleeper, he hasn’t been up in the night for over a month. He has about 3 naps a day on average and he sleeps from 8pmish to 6:30amish. Amelia was like clockwork with her times but her isn’t nearly as routine (actually I think I am not as routine) all his times vary quite abit.

All in all Felix is growing up and starting to seem more like a toddler than an infant now.

Easter ect.

I am abit behind on my posts/ Let em start with Easter, we had a great easter weekend. We volenteered to host Easter Dinner, we were abit worried that our house might not be sold and we would have to balance keeping the house show ready and cooking a big meal but in the end that was not an issue. Actaully the first dinner party we ever hosted in our house was Easter Dinner, our house was still in abit of disarray at the time.

Anyways we decided to Deep fry our turkey this year. We were amazed at how much you can actaully cook when you don’t have a turkey in the oven. The meal turned out really well. Jeff’s Family came along with our friends Heather, Adam, Dani, Rory and Andrea. I was goodtimes all around.

As the night progressed Adam and Rory decided to take it upon themselves that they would couch Amelia in the act of the easter egg hunt. They started to explain but Amelia asked themt o hang on while she went to find a piece of paper and a pen to take notes. The advice was first check the window sills, she didn’t know how to spell that so she drew a picture instead then the shelves, she draw another window It was a very extensive training with much running around involved. Very entertaining.

The next morning Amelia seemed to forget all the advice imparted to her. She saw the easter basket with the big easter bunny and she couldn’t be bothered with the window sills. After alittle prompting she did do the big hunt though.

Following Easter my dad and Sarah came out for a visit and to join us for my birthday. We had a great visit. Sarah had to work on Tuesday but Dad, Amelia, Felix and I went to the zoo for a few hours. It was a great day. Amelia informed us that she was no longer into dots and she liked stripes better therefore the giraffs were no longer the favs but the zebras were. Tuesday night Dad got to see the reharsal of Amelia dance preformance, rather cute.

On Wed, my birthday Dad, Sarah, Felix and I spent hte day togehter and went out for lunch in the beaches. In the evening all the familyexcept Rich went out for dinner at the Boiler House in the Distillary District. Dinner was very yummy, unfortuntaly after a busy day and not much napping for felix, Felix was not a hppy camper and the night ended up being abit stressful, either way though it was nice to have everyone there.

Going Going GONE!!!

Okay so our house was on the market for 12hrs, the listing went up for agent at 8:30am by 10:30am we had 5 showings booked and by 8pm we had an offer. It was rather exciting and a big sigh of relief for both of us. We close on July 15 eeep! Now we just need to find a new house, unfortunately there is NOTHING on the market in the area we are interested in!!!! BAH! We put an offer in on a house on Saturday and unfortunately lost out in a bidding war, BIDDING WAR I KNOW!!! There aren’t supposed to be bidding wars right now, that is why we decided to move now! Double Bah!

Oh well enough of the house saga, on to the rest of life. We have been our usual busy selves, Jeff ran the Spring Runoff this weekend and went to the season home opener for the TFC. Amelia and chilled on Saturday and went to see a movie with her friends. Monsters vs Aliens, she seemed to like it but informed me it was abit scary. I thought is was abit slow but that may have been because I was running in and out signing back offers on this house we were trying to get. Sunday was a much be relaxed day with just some groceries, a birthday party for Amelia and Sunday dinner at J&D’s.

Amelia’s is slowing developing a sense of humor. Both John and Jeff like to tease Amelia relentlessly, for the last year or two she has bit and will get all upset until we tell her that they are joking her. She is starting to be able to tell when they are teasing her. The other day I was putting my makeup and Amelia was watching me, as she does whenever she gets the chance. I have a basket on the top of the toilet with all my makeup in it, Amelia was rummaging around in it after I had asked her to stop repeatedly, (I was getting annoyed) and she looked up at me and got a quirky grin on her face and said “but Mommy I am just so curious….”, I melted. On the weekend I was making some spiced nuts for snacks during the week, Amelia was asking about them and I told her I was making these so we had a healthish snack instead of chocolate or chips, she looked at me and said “so mom they are NUTrisous”. Jeff and I both laughed and Amelia was pretty pleased with herself. Melie is princess, makeup and generally girlie stuff obsessed these days, Jeff has vowed to put her in sportball this summer 

Amelia is starting to learn her ABCs, she has known the song for awhile but now she is getting much better at writing all her letters. It does amazing me how quickly kids learn at this age. She has this little etch-a-sketch with a pen thant she loves to use for playing “school” Jeff or I are the teacher and we have to tell her what letters to write and have to lead the songs during circle time…

Felix is a happy little dude these days, he makes me laugh. He has this massive grin that I think looks like a muppet. He is getting much more mobile and is rolling all over and can even inch worm along abit and can hold himself up on his knees for short periods. He is a lot getting much stronger at sitting but still looses his balance and topples to one side or the other quite frequently.

He is also developing more hand eye coordination, he reaches up to touch my face now, which I find very cute. He is very good at grabbing his toys.

He continues to be VERY vocal, his latest trick is to yell at the top of his lungs so the rest of us can’t hear ourselves and he smiles away while he is doing it. Ugh!

He is LOVIN’ his food. We have thrown all caution to the wind and have been going crazy with foods. SO far he is had purple carrots, peas, sweet potatoes, squash with onions and cinnamon, Chicken and squash courtesy of Hez, bits of bread, avocado, mango and bananas. You can really tell when he likes what he is getting (which is the norm) because he getting very involved he grabs the spoon and shoves it in his mouth, then if his spoon isn’t in his mouth he has to get his finger to suck on. It is a very interactive and messy affair. Oh he has also had prunes for obvious reasons.

For Sale!!!

Well it is official all the paper work is signed, our house will be on the market on Monday…. so scary. I know I am going to bawl my eyes out when we finally leave this house…

Oh well bring on the excitement of the next house and inevitable reno

5 Months Brings Rolling and Some Quality Food

The little guy has grown up so much in the last month. He has so many facial expressions and noises. He is growing into such a little boy.

In terms of appearance he has started to slim down… abit. On occasion he actually only has one chin. He has lost of majority of his brown hair, with the exception of the tuff at the base of his neck. His brown hair is now bring replaced with white blond hair, it looks kind of like baby duck down. He continues to have shockingly blue eyes and there doesn’t seem to be any change in that.

This month he has started to roll over, from front to back and back to front. He started off only doing in once of twice in about a week or so but now he has turned pro and he can flip himself quite easily. As you know he sleeps on his stomach but now I never know which side I am going to find him on when I come to get him.

He still isn’t stable sitting up but he is getting better at it. He does love standing and he is pretty sturdy.

Felix and I have been getting a lot more fresh air in the last month. I haven’t been using the stroller very much but I have been using the carrier, it is quite the back strengthening. We have been for a lot of walks since the weather has started to warm up. Felix does not think much of being faced towards me and makes his feelings know but he is quite happy if he is faced outwards. Unfortunately although he is happy in the carrier he doesn’t usually sleep, bah!

Speaking of sleep, Felix has been sleeping through the night for the most part but unlike Amelia, who once she started sleeping through the night never looked back Felix has hiccups in his routine. In the last few weeks he has woken up crying in the night. Jeff and I think it might be his teeth of that he is hungry and ready to start solids.

Felix continues to be a drooling fool with no teeth in sight yet but an increase in the amount of drool and a set of rosy cheeks indicates they are on their way.

Felix is starting to get abit clingy, he gave my mom a run for her money the other week by screaming for about an hour while she was watching him, poor mom. I am not sure if he actually wants me or just wanted some one to rub his back and sing him the “Meatball” Song… Yup that is right that is his fav, I always sang Amelia Hush Little Baby but Felix just screams louder if I sing that but for some reason as soon as I start with “on top of spaghetti” he quiets right down. I am abit worried my son is going to start thinking his name is meatball, it is actually a rather appropriate nickname.

I am confirmed my son is not a shopper, Amelia would never fuss when I took her to the mall, Felix not to much. Every time I take him there is a minor melt down while I am browsing as soon as I pick up the pace though he is a happy camper again.

This isn’t actually official part of month 5 but seeing as I am late with my post I will add it anyway… As I mentioned above Felix has been waking up in the night, we narrowed it down to two possible explanations, teeth or hunger. First we tried giving Felix tempra before bed but that didn’t help so we thought food might be the problem, as such we decided to start Felix on solids this weekend. You would think we were rookie parents with the major lapse in judgment we made… Sat morning we took as break from home fix ups and went down to St. Lawrence market to get some fixin’ for dinner that night and we decided to get some yummy veggie for Felix to test out. We selected some lovely orange and purple carrots, so has anyone noted the problem… purple carrots not so smart…. They are like beats, they were impressively purple once steamed and squished. Oh well it made for an adventure. Anyways Felix seemed quite into the food. He was all about trying to grab the spoon and shove it in his mouth, this was about of an obstacle for us. In sticking with tradition we implemented the feeding hat again, Felix doesn’t have quite the voluminous locks that his sister did but still we figured better safe than sorry. Felix has had two more days of solids now and he really seems to be digging it. It is nice to have one child excited about the food we make 

Friday we headed to Dans and Rubs for a BBQ and drinks with friends, it was a good night. We hosted family dinner on Saturday night, it was chocked full of fresh market yummies. Sunday we went for our yuppie walk in High Park followed by some house tiding and storage room reorganization.

Amelia is doing really well, she is abit makeup and princess obsessed for us at the moment but other than that she is great. Friday we spent the day with Leigh and Ronan and those two had a great time together, they are so cute together.
